Our Story

We are a family of life-long learners, makers, builders, artists, educators and nature appreciators. We are also parents who do our best to give our children all the opportunities to discover, explore, and experience a wonderful childhood filled with meaningful learning. In 2020, Tiny Hike started as an intention to spend as much time outdoors as possible. We left the big city life during the pandemic. As individuals and as a family, spending time in nature has always been an immensely important. The time spent with our children at a park, state forest, wildlife refuge, bikepath, lake or pond is alawys mindful, wonderful and rewarding. Over the past five years we have held nature walk meet ups for littles ages 0-5, as well as, nature-based sensory activities at the library and local playgrounds.

What We Do

The primary goal of the co-op is to encourge and support the education and development of children from infancy to early adulthood by sharing our skill set with the next generation. We do this through play, literacy, art and crafts, sciences and techonolgy. The work within the co-op is creating a supportive environment that allows families to wholistically learn together while making lasting memories.

Our Grassroots Philosophy

Our philosophy has evolved over time. Starting from why we wanted to create a space for like minded families, which is to share our collective insight. Generally speaking, grassroots principles center on bottom-up empowerment, where people can self-organize, focusing on local needs and collective action, emphasizing inclusivity, direct participation, and solidarity, and empowering local leadership to build power and influence decisions from the ground up, rather than relying on external authority. From these general principles, we heavily support self-advocy and self-empowerment. This translates as confirence building in children and young adults, where we demonstrate and model a "can do" attitude in education, especially in problem-solving and conflict resolution. Our grassroots philosophy is in embracing the bottom-up approach to thinking and problem-solving, emphasizing that knowledge, collective wisdom, and the practical application of theoretical concepts through inquiry into our everyday life to create a sustainable lifestyle.
